The meaning of reptiles and their omens

Throughout history certain reptiles have had a close relationship to the occult, folklore and religion. In today’s article we look at a just a few reptiles and the omens associated with them.

Lizard

Finding a lizard where you would not expect to find one is considered to be an omen of disappointment.

Snake

Encountering a snake which is heading towards you is said to to be a portent of treachery, betrayal or jealousy directed at you. However, to encounter a snake heading away from you would suggest treachery, betrayal or jealousy directed against your enemies.

Toad

Killing or injuring a toad is to invite anxiety or grief.

Tortoise

Tortoises are lucky and to encounter one an omen of protection and tranquillity.

Viper

An encounter with a viper (or adder) is an omen suggesting a meeting a woman of suspicious character is likely.
