Ruthin Gaol

On 17th February in 1903 William Hughes was hanged in the jail and his body buried in the grounds. Hughes, from Denbugh, had fought with the British army in India, separated from his wife in 1901 after the death of one of their children.

William was prosecuted for “family desertion” and in 1902 was sentenced to three months in the gaol. He was released in November 1902, procured a double-barrel gun, went to the home where his wife was working and shot her dead.

Hughes surrendered to the police. Despite a plea of insanity he was found guilty of murder, the jury taking only ten minutes to decide his fate.

He was executed at 8 o’clock in the morning and it is said the last thing he did before his death was look at a photograph of his family.

Are the Slough and Langley Observer headquarters haunted?

Investigators from Southern Paranormal were invited to spend the night looking for spirits in the 14th century building owned by the Slough and Langley Observer in Datchet Road.

The team discovered the presence of a possible two spirits in the building. The first ghost encountered by the newspaper reporter and Southern Paranormal is described as a large man, dressed in rough clothes and who carries an aura of importance.

Female members of the paranormal investigate group agreed that the presence seemed unwilling to communicate with them. The man is believed to have lived around the 14th century and be called Egbert.

New ghostly photograph from Inverary Jail

Scottish visitor attraction Inverary Jail has released a photograph of a ghostly shape hovering at the surface.

Built by the side of Loch Fyne in Argyll, the former prison is widely reported to be haunted and visited often by paranormal investigators.

Inside the jail most sightings are reported in or around cell 10. Gavin Dick, manager of the attraction, said; “During the height of the X Files days we used to call it Cell X for obvious reasons.”

The Fowey Hotel

It is said that the restaurant in Fowey Hotel is haunted. Visitors sensitive to spirits have reported seeing a man – perhaps a soldier or a sailor – in a state of distress and pleading his innocence.

The third floor hallway is also believed to be visited by a ghost as guests have reported the sounds of footsteps in the night.

Could Fowey Hotel’s wine cellar be haunted? Some have suggested the room is unusually cold and that a dark presence can sometimes be felt in the corner.

Pagan wins apology from doctor who ‘oozed Christianity’

Case files from General Practitioners across England which contained details of complaints from patients became public this week.

Right-wing English tabloids are heralding a case of a pagan patient winning an apology from her doctor for “oozing Christianity” as ridiculous as the case of a GP forced to apologise to a patient when he refused to write a sick note to cover for a hangover.

The case file from the pagan also notes that the patient expressed concerns that her GP had drastically changed her medication and had made condescending and threatening statements to her. The issue of the doctors Christianity had been raised simply because the patient found the religious differences an obstacle to forming a doctor-patient relationship.

All Angels Day – A Celebration of Life

All Angels Day is a holistic healing event dedicated to spreading Light and Love. The event on the 22nd of May attracted positive reviews from mainstream media and the second event for 2009 is scheduled for December 5th.

Held in the Athenaeum on Angel Hill at Bury St Edmunds the day offered angelic readings, crystal energy, Reiki, EFT, spiritual guidance and children meditation sessions.

Cosmo Verner, one of the group of nine lightworkers supporting the event, described the day as a great success. Cosmo, who owns the Crystal Merchant, told press, “The community embraced our holistic approach to life and our wish to encourage communication, inspiration, love and light.”

Coping with unlucky lilac in the house

Old English tradition considers lilac to be an unlucky flower which should not be carried into the house. This tradition is particular strong in Norfolk and surrounding areas.

It is often suggested that the lilac flower – especially the white blossom – is associated with death and that’s why lilac is unlucky. As a result lilac is especially unwelcome in hospitals.

The haunted room in Ramsey’s George Hotel burns

The ghost in the haunted hotel room in the listed Cambridgeshire building is believed to hate fire. Known as Mary, she is believed to have died of smoke inhalation in the same room.

Stripping a witchdoctor of his power

The Kenyan Standard carries photographs of an alleged witchdoctor, Mr Chengo Dingo, being stripped of his powers.

Kanamai residents in the Kilifi District accused Mr Dingo of destroying marriages and wrecking businesses. In response the locals hired the servers of two ‘senior’ withdoctors; Safari Mohamed and Omar Mohamed to render Dingo powerless.

The witchdoctor was shaved, painted, made to straddle the more senior Mohamed and tehn carried around the village. He was declared free of evil powers.
