Dolphins race surfer at St Pete Beach

This video was taken off St. Pete Beach in Flordia. St. Petersburg/Clearwater is a popular holiday destination and is part of Tampa Bay. Until 1994 the beach was officially called St. Petersburg Beach but the name was changed officially; which makes sense as the city of St. Petersburg is miles to the east.

In the video a surfer is follows along behind a motorboat, riding in the wake and is joined by a pair of dolphins doing exactly the same thing.

The alien sounds of seals

This clip is from Werner Herzog’s “Encounters at the End of the World” and include some very rare sounds. Not only are these seal sounds very rare – they’re almost too strange to believe. These underwater sounds of seals sound almost alien or sci-fi like.

Triclops pig with two snouts

In the Fuijan Province of China a pig with two snouts and a strange third eye in the middle of her head as been born. It was the 5th pig in the litter.

The piglet wasn’t able to take the breast milk of its mother but was rescued by the farmer Xiao Jintu. Xiao now plans to raise the pig as a pet.

Lil’ Drac is not the child of Dracula. Instead, this story could be a sad one – a zoo is forced to close, the animals are forced to move and the trauma resulted in Lil’ Drac, a tiny baby bat, being abandoned by his mother.

When an octopus walks on land

It is a little known fact but octopi can leave water and survive, for a while, on land. They’re not the most graceful of creatures on land but they remain remarkably versitle and intelligent even out of their natural habitat.

This video was published in June 2011 but has recently become popular. It was recorded at the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve and shows a relatively small octopus leaving the water and apparently dispositing a crab at the feet of stunned watchers before returning to the sea.

The motiviation of that octopus might not be so clear however this next video the intent is more obvious.

This octopus is on board a shrimping ship off the coast of Alaska because it had been found in a shrimp trap. Not only had it broken into the shrimp trap to eat the shrimp it had then unscrewed the lid of the bait jar and eaten those bait pellets as dessert.

The crew decided to respect the creature’s intelligence and not kill it. The octopus decided to walk off the ship and back to the sea.

If octopi are this intelligent is it wrong to eat them? Or are they just creeping looking fish?

Freaky video of toad with wriggling worms in its eye

This video shows a rather disturbing image of a large toad with an eye infested by a wriggling worm. The toad seems calm enough but it’s hard to believe it still has sight in that eye.

This blogger isn’t a vet but wonders whether or not the parasite caught on camera here is the roundworm known as toxocara. It’s commonly associated with dogs but can pass to human.

This video from Animal Planet’s Monsters Inside Me documents the case of a toddler that lost vision in one eye due to an infection.

Ghost of Dambusters dog discovered at RAF Scampton

RAF Scamption is an airbase near Lincoln that was used by Wing Commander Gibson for the Dambusters raid in 1943. Hours before the raid Lincoln’s black lab, which was called Nigger, was killed. The dog was buried at midnight and while Gibson was on the famous raid.

A note about the strange name – because it certainly made this blogger worried. Nigger has his own Wikipedia entry and it is explained that at the time Nigger was not an uncommon name for a dog and it, thankfully, has since become culturally unacceptable. Some edits of the famous Dambusters film change the dog’s name to Trigger.

Nigger would go flying with Gibson. Bruce Barrymore Halpenny noted in “Ghost Stations” that a ghostly hound, believed to be Nigger, has been sighted on multiple occasions around RAF Scampton and even at the Dambusters Memorial at Woodhall Spa.

The Telegraph is reporting that a team of paranormal investigators, filmed by the BBC, have managed to make contact with a spirit they believe to be Commander Gibson’s dog.

You can see the BBC’s video at World War II hero Guy Gibson’s ghost hunted.

The team was led by Paul Drake (aka @spiritsearcher) of Paranormal Lincs International .

The BBC’s coverage report that RAF Scampton staff believe there may be as many as six spirits in the airfield. It was the dog, however, that captured Drake’s attention and it may be the dog that they managed to encounter. He told the Telegraph;

”I saw a picture that had the dog in it, which the photographer said was not there when it was taken, and that has stayed in the back of my mind for a few years.

“After I saw the picture I got in contact with RAF Scampton to see if we could do an investigation. I never dreamed they would say ‘yes’ as it is still an operational base and everything has to go through the base commander.

“But they have been absolutely brilliant and have welcomed us with open arms.”

The group believe the ghost of Nigger may have been present as readings on their electronic magnetic detectors would surge whenever the question; “are you there?” was asked.

Have you been to Lincoln’s RAF Scampton and sensed any ghosts? After our RAF West Raynham post numerous residents and ex-staff stepped forward to say they felt something on the base and an equal number disagreed.
