The meaning of places in dreams and their omens

It is common to dream of being in strange or familiar places. When you do you need to consider the meaning of the events in the dream and the significance of the location.

Abbey

Dreaming of an abbey suggests that any troubles that are currently haunting you will soon go away.

Altar

If you dream that you are by an altar it is unlucky. This dream suggests illness and loss. If, however, you decorate the altar in your dream then you will be lucky and happy in love.

Attic

Dreaming of an attic is a dream which foretells the renewal of an important and an old friendship.

Balcony

If you dream of watching from a balcony then this indicates an unexpected success will come your way. If the balcony collapses under you then this dream foretells a quarrel with someone you care about.

Bath

If you dream of yourself in a warm bath then this indicates you are in danger of being too lazy and failing in an important task. If you dream of yourself in a cool or cold bath then this suggests you will succeed and prosper in commerce and retail.

Boat

Rowing in a boat is a dream which predicts business success and luck. If the boat tips over then this is an omen of important news to come.

Bridge

To dream about crossing a bridge is to suggest you have been worrying about something which is not that important. The bridge falls away in the dream, however, you need to be diligent in all financial matters.

Cabin

To dream that you are alone in a ship cabin is to dream of unhappiness and domestic troubles. If you dream that you with one or more people in the cabin then this suggests advancement and help from a well positioned ally.

Castle

Dreaming that you live in a castle is to dream of forthcoming burdened responsibility. If the dream allows you to see the castle from the distance then this is a good omen. A view of a castle from a distance may also suggest some public role for you.

Cave

Dreaming that you are hiding in a cave is an omen that someone is creating a scandal which involves you. Dreaming of wild animals leaving a cave suggests you will soon discover a troublesome secret.

Cemetery

It is a good omen to dream of a cemetery. This dream suggests a sick friend or relative will improve in health.

Chapel

It is a bad omen to dream of a chapel. This dream suggests a troubled conscience which may haunt you now and in the future. A dramatic change of approach might be wise.

Church

A dream which features a church with its doors open is a good omen.  This dream suggests business growth or a promotion. If the church has its doors shut then you may be disappointed, loose money or both.

Desert

Dreaming that you are walking across a dry desert is to suggest that you will need to make a short business trip. If a storm breaks out in the dream then the business trip will not be successful.

Forest

Dreaming that you are lost in a forest is a good omen. This dream suggests prosperity. If, however, you view the forest from a distance in the dream then you may loose some property.

Garden

Dreaming of a garden is a marriage dream. It suggests you will be married to an attractive person.

Hospital

Dreaming that you or someone you know is in hospital is a good omen and suggests that you or someone you know will remain in good health or improve. It may also suggest less reason to worry.

House

A dream which features a new or strange house is a dream which suggests happiness at home and with the family. Dreaming of your home suggests, however, that quarrels may occur in the near future.

Inn

Dreaming of being inside an inn suggests that you may have to cope without money. Dreaming of being outside an inn suggests you will have to face a large disappointment. Inns are bad omens in dreams.

Park

Dreaming of a walk in the park is an omen which predicts health and sporting success.

Path

A dream which features a broad and smooth path is a bad omen which suggests you will be unlucky in love. Dreaming of a hard path to walk is a good omen which suggests happiness in a relationship.

Prison

Dreams in which you are sent to prison or are in prison are good omens; they suggest you will have the freedom to find leisure and enjoyment. Dreaming of others inside prison while you remain free is a bad omen which suggests you will soon face a disappointment.

Quicksand

Dreaming of being stuck in quicksand is a good omen. This dream suggests status and great success in relationships. If you encounter other people stuck in quicksand while you remain free in the dream is a bad omen that indicates misfortune and trouble are coming your way.

Road

A dream of a wide, well maintained and easy to travel road is a warning that your family life may soon challenge you. A dream of a rough and ready road, of a road which is poorly maintained, is an omen of success at work and in love.

Stairs

Dreaming that you are walking upstairs suggests you will shortly be disappointed. Dreaming that you are walking downstairs suggests that may soon be pleasantly surprised.

Valley

Dreaming that you are standing or walking through a valley suggests you may soon live elsewhere or that you may encounter an old friend. To be looking down at a valley from above suggests that you have made a mistake you will soon regret.

Volcano

A dream of an erupting volcano predicts arguments and dramas. A dream in which the volcano stays quiet is a dream which predicts reconciliation and the lighting of an old flame.

The meaning of animals in dreams and their omens

Dreams sometimes require careful and microscopic analysis. This list of animals appearing in dreams and what that appearance may mean is based on common interpretations. In particular, if you have a relationship or awareness with one particular deity and that deity is associated or represented by an animal then the appearance of that animal in your dream may have a very different meaning.

Adder

Killing an adder in your dream suggests the end of an undesirable friendship however being bitten by one suggests lies and treachery will come from a false friend.

Alligator

Dreaming of an alligator suggests that someone you know is a false friend and perhaps even an enemy. You will be able to recognise the alligator from their over dramatic displays of friendship.

Ants

Flying ants suggest that you will make a journey whereas worker ants busy on the ant-hill is a lucky dream suggesting business growth and wealth. Standing on an ant-hill in a dream is unlucky and suggests the failure of plans and destruction.

Bat

If you dream of a bat flying in the night then it suggests you are at risk from an enemy you cannot see coming. Dreaming of a bat flying during the day suggests you will see danger coming and escape it.

Bear

Dreaming of slaying a bear suggests you will overcome a challenge or rival. Dreaming that you are running from a bear is to dream that a challenge or enemy may soon threaten your happiness.

Bee

It is considered very lucky to dream of bees; it suggests friends, faithfulness and business success.

Bull

Dreaming of a bull charging you is a warning that false friends and rivals are speaking badly of you. Dreaming of a peaceful bull in a field or the wild is to dream of peace and prosperity.

Camel

If a single camel appears in your dream then it suggests you will need to make a short journey. Dreaming of more than one camel is lucky and suggests money is coming your way.

Cat

Dreaming of a walking cat is to suggest you too will need to make a journey. Dreaming of a mewing cat is to know that someone is bad mouthing you. Cuckoo

If you see a cuckoo in your dream then this suggests quarrels in your love life, a new lover or both. To hear the cuckoo but not see it is to know that a false friend will trick you with bad advice.

Deer

If deer run from you in the dream then you are at risk of upsetting a friend. If the deer approach you in the dream then you will have the chance of reconciliation with a former close friend.

Dog

To dream of your own dog is lucky – suggesting loyal friends. Dreaming of strange dogs may suggest unwelcome attention from strangers however dreaming of mad dogs which attack and bite is actually a good omen. When a dog speaks in a dream it is representive of advice from friends or strangers.

Donkey

Dreaming of a donkey suggests that you have the patience to overcome your current challenges.

Dove

To dream of a dove falling from the sky is unlucky and suggests that a relative faces very serious threat and may die. Dreaming of doves in all other instances is a positive omen of peace and prosperity.

Eagle

Dreaming of an eagle on the ground or an eagle landing is to dream of disappointment. Dreaming of a flying eagle is to suggest that success and the realisation of future ambitions.

Elephant

An elephant in your dream suggests success and powerful new friends.

Fish

A school of fish in your dream implies that friends are coming to help you. A single fish is representative of well-being and prosperity.

Fox

A fox in a dream represents a sly and dangerous rival, enemy or false friend.

Frog

Magpie

Mouse

Dreaming of a mouse is a warning that people may attempt to tell you what to do.

Owl

Turtle

Wasp

Dreaming of a wasp stinging you is a warning that an enemy or false friend will seek to dishonour you. Dreaming of flying wasps is an omen of bad news.

Weasel

In dreams weasels represent dangerous meetings and people.

Wolf

A wolf in a dream suggests a treacherous and lying false friend.

Worms

Dreaming of worms suggests that you are currently troubled by many small concerns.

Zebra

To dream of a zebra is an omen which suggests a change in circumstances. If you are currently being lucky then you may soon face a spell of bad luck. If you’re currently not blessed with much luck then this may soon change.

The meaning of reptiles and their omens

Throughout history certain reptiles have had a close relationship to the occult, folklore and religion. In today’s article we look at a just a few reptiles and the omens associated with them.

Lizard

Finding a lizard where you would not expect to find one is considered to be an omen of disappointment.

Snake

Encountering a snake which is heading towards you is said to to be a portent of treachery, betrayal or jealousy directed at you. However, to encounter a snake heading away from you would suggest treachery, betrayal or jealousy directed against your enemies.

Toad

Killing or injuring a toad is to invite anxiety or grief.

Tortoise

Tortoises are lucky and to encounter one an omen of protection and tranquillity.

Viper

An encounter with a viper (or adder) is an omen suggesting a meeting a woman of suspicious character is likely.

Itching is sometimes thought of as one of the manifestations of the human body connected with omens and fortune.

An itchy crown of the head

You will have an advance in position.

An itchy right cheek

Someone is speaking well of you.

Someone is speaking poorly of you.

An itchy right eye or eyebrow

You will have a meeting with an old friend.

You will have a great disappointment.

You will be annoyed, cursed, kissed or meet with a fool soon.

Someone is saying something disrespectful to you.

The meaning of flowers

There are very many superstitions and beliefs surrounding flowers, their meanings and  properties.  This post looks at only a few.

Clover

It is widely believed that finding a four-leafed clover brings good luck. If the finder hands the clover on to someone else than, it is sometimes said, that luck is further enhanced.

Daffodil

Daffodils should always be taken and given in bunches as it is thought to be unlucky to pluck just a single flower.

Daisy

It is the daisy which brings the tradition of; “He loves me, he loves me not”. Girls can discover what their sweethearts are realy feeling byt plucking the daisy’s petals and alternating the chant.

Dandelion

Dandelions can also be used to determine if someone loves you; blow the seeds from the seed-head away, one puff at a time and between each puff say alternatively; “He loves me, he loves me not”.

Gorse

It is unlucky to have gorse bush flowers in the house.

Heather

White heather is said to be lucky but is considered even better to grow your own than buy it.

Lilac

White lilac flowers are unlucky and should not be carried inside.

Marigold

It is said that picking marigolds that you have grown yourself will encourage you to become a drunkard.

May

May blossom is considered unlucky if it is brought into the house.

Orange blossom

Orange blossom is connected to fertility and is considered lucky to have at a wedding.

Pansies

Picking pansies in the sunny is believed to increase the chances of it raining

Poppies

Some believe that staring into the centre of a poppy can cause a temporary loss of vision. Poppies are considered to be very unlucky and should therefore never be taken into the house.

Snowdrops

Snowdrops are related to spring and new life but despite this it is considered unlucky to have them in the house. It is considered particularly unlucky to have snowdrops in the house with a sick person.
